Psychotherapy and counselling can take the form of either individual or group sessions. In individual therapy or counselling, an individual works one-on-one with a psychologist or counsellor in a safe, caring, and accepting environment to explore any difficulties that he or she may be experiencing and develop healthy coping strategies. Similarly, group psychotherapy or counselling provides a space for people with similar experiences to come together with a registered psychological practitioner.

 

Through this process, the group supports one another while exploring specific areas of difficulty and potential coping mechanisms. All members of the group session participate and contribute to the process by sharing, listening to one another, and supporting each other. Group therapy can include family counselling, groups for parental support, as well as groups to support younger clients and clients with specific needs, such as social skills training and emotional intelligence.
